Counselling
Thomas Theyer Foundation Counselling – our story
We opened our ‘therapeutic’ doors in 2021 to provide a safe confidential space for Children and Young People with Special Educational Needs and Difficult Life Circumstances, who live in the High Peak area and their families. We offer counselling sessions to children, young people and adults.
Our professionally trained therapists provide a safe space, where children, young people and adults can discuss their thoughts and emotions and make sense of how they feel. Â
We currently offer counselling at our office in Buxton, via Zoom or telephone and in schools. We know counselling young people in a familiar space can be highly empowering to help young people open up.Â
Additionally, we offer counselling for parents, carers, and close relatives. Counselling is also available to the wider community. For more information please email counselling@thomastheyerfoundation.org.uk
We believe in offering affordable support to all our community and as such our prices try to reflect this, as a small charity however, we do incur running costs and therefore cannot provide a free service for everyone.Â
If you are an adult who needs support but are on low income, please still get in touch as we do have some flexibility on these terms. We also can offer free counselling with a student counsellor in their final years of study.
 Â
What is counselling?Â
Counselling offers the opportunity to talk to someone, confidentially. You will be heard, without being judged and have the freedom to explore thoughts and feelings and find new ways of looking at things. It is a process which can help you recognise what changes you may or may not wish to make in your life. All our counsellors are trained to listen carefully and thoughtfully to you, without judgement and have a number of years of specialist experience.
Counsellors do not give advice but do support you to make positive decisions for yourself. Our counsellors are trained to work with many different areas that may be worrying you, including feeling stressed or anxious, feeling down, having panic attacks, being bullied, coping with the death of someone in your life, family problems, low self-esteem, low self-confidence, friendship / relationship issues, hurting yourself, feelings of not fitting in, exam worries and loneliness.
You’ll have up to 8 to 10 sessions with a counsellor who is trained to hear you in confidence. If you would like more information, please fill in the form below and a member of our team will get back to you.

Some feedback from clients
Counselling has helped me with my confidence and has made me feel better overall.
12 weeks of counselling with Thomas Theyer has helped my son with his confidence and anger issues… I have my carefree, confident son back and it is amazing!
One of the best experiences of counselling I’ve had.
