Thomas Challenge

One way to get involved and help the charity is to take on the Thomas Challenge – to raise £1,000 or more in 12 months. You can take on the challenge as an individual, with a group of friends, or as part of a club, business, or school. Maybe as part of a group completing your Citizenship Award. We believe, through lots of people working together, can make a big difference. That’s why we created the Thomas Challenge.

Here are some of the people who have taken on the Thomas Challenge and their incredible efforts:

The Super Friends

Anthony Nuttall together with his wife Claire and a group of their friends, nicknamed the ‘Super Friends’, took on the challenge and raised over £1,500

Anthony said, it is all about having fun with family and friends and that has been at the centre of our fundraising, we started by having a Prosecco tasting; we then had a get together breakfast, which lasted all day! We have also sold homemade lemon curd, cakes and tea cosies.

Anthony, an avid Liverpool supporter, also managed to get a signed football which was then auctioned and completed a skydive, something he said, was a major personal achievement for him.

Julia King

Julia was TTFs London Marathon runner in 2019. In addition to gaining sponsorship from friends and family, her employers gave a donation and she held local events including a Gin Tasting and auction – she did a great time in the race and raised over £5,000

Fellow runner Pete Ambrose also ran the London Marathon and beat the Thomas Challenge.

Seasons – Buxton

Steve and Sarah Baguley have been keen supporters of TTF and since opening their bar Seasons, on Station Approach, they have held numerous fundraising activities, including a Christmas Hamper Raffle, Quiz nights and Sarah and her daughter Catherine took part in our 2022 Skydive.

Here is a clip of Sarah enjoying the Sky Dive.

Grindleford School

The amazing children, supported by Head Teacher, Leonie Hill, and team at Grindleford School, took on the challenge and raised over £3,800.  They held numerous events including a writing competition, sponsored swim, sponsored silence – shhh, a writing competition, hockey event and one pupil even sat in a tub of jelly for the day.  You can watch a short film of the children talking about the challenge on our Schools Page

The Health and Safety Laboratory – Buxton and DJS Research – Strines

The HSL (now HSE) Buxton, and DJS Research from Strines chose TTF as their charity of the year.  Both organisations beat the challenge – raising over £5,000 each.  They completed fundraising activities from bake sales to bring your dog to work days and both organisations had team members who completed a SkyDive.
